Echocardiogram

What is it? What is the procedure? What does it show?

An echocardiogram (also known as an echo) is a kind of ultrasound test, that Dr. Norberto Fleites and his staff of doctors utilize. It sends high-pitched sound waves by using a medical tool known as a transducer in order to receive echo from the sound waves bouncing off around the patient’s heart. Once received, these echoed waves are converted into visible moving pictures that are displayed on a screen.

Echocardiograms expose a variety of heart problems and conditions. They also show different crucial things about the heart.; such as: size, palpitation rate, valves, walls of the heart chambers, and the septum. Echocardiograms can also detect blood clots and tumors which can saves countless lives if detected early.

  • Stress Echocardiogram:
    – Mostly done to verify if a patient has the coronary artery disease
    – This ultrasound test requires to be done twice. Once before you heart is stressed, and once after
    – Physical exercise or an injection may be applied in order to make the patient’s heart beat faster
  • Transesophageal Echocardiogram (also known as TEE):
    – A probe, which is a medical instrument, is used to travel down the patient’s esophagus
